OUR COMMITMENT ..........................
....................... stems from our own travelling experience.
We think about leisure enjoyment, considered a whole human experience, as a basic element in the physical, psychological and social development and wellness of the individual; leisure, moreover, becomes a determining factor and key area in the way towards full inclusion among disabled persons.
There are many persons with mobility difficulties and/or communication impairments willing to travel: from that point of view, there´s no difference between them and others, people without disabilities.
All those of us who make up Polibea (a "special employment centre" where jobs and working training are provided for disabled persons otherwise excluded from the labour market) have been travelling and organizing various leisure activities for the last twenty years. Things have changed a lot since we started, in terms of favouring our participation in this kind of activities: rules and regulations regarding architectural barriers, transport, etc.. have changed both on state and autonomous regions; public consciousness about our community and the issues confronted has raised and industries related to tourism are aware of our knocking at their door. There is 3.500.000 of us in Spain and about 50.000.000 in Europe.
Tourist industry is in Spain one of the most important contributors to economic activity, and they have, no doubt, got the message: the supply of accessible tourist resources is increasing day after day. We´ve been able to confirm and check it: and it is true that accommodations, restaurants, natural parks and other nature areas and tourist attractions are being designed and managed by means of accessibility so that everyone can use and enjoy them. Yet, they might be a few, but there they are.
It´s our commitment attempting to bring the kind of information on travel for people with disabilities that can ease the planning of their trips, to make known all public or private interprises that will result in improvements to travel and leisure activities and promoting equality of opportunity for disabled people in the enjoyment of travel, meeting the requirements, needs and expectations of the customer.
Neither more. nor less
