This amazing and magnificent palace, located in the shopping district, has only been open to the public on a regular basis since July 2003. The wheelchair accessible ground floor is worth a visit.

It is one of the few places in the world where you can actually walk on top of some of the mosaics. The excellent condition of the house is due to the extensive renovation work of the Countess of Lebrija in the early 20th century. She was a world traveller as well as a dedicated collector as the house indicates in it's displays of pieces from as far away as Mexico and the far east.

The Lebrija Palace is described as one of the best houses in Seville, this house doesn't only have mosaics, but rather in its rooms is stored multitude of archaeological remains of incalculable value: glasses, two-handled jars, columns, vessels and sculptures. Its walls are also adorned in ornamental artwork as its Arab arches with its plateresque decorations and its facade of Andalusian style.

Though still being a private house/building it opens its doors to the public on a regular basis since 2003. The ground floor in the Palacio Lebrija is wheelchair accessible and an adapted toilet is available.

Central Patio Mosaic.Palacio Lebrija.Sevilla. Click to zoom image. The Palace, featuring about 2000 square meters , was divided in to winter housing, located on the first floor, and of summer housing on the ground floor. It dates from the XVI century, when it was rebuilt as an elegant mansion of Seville . When the Roman City of Italica was discovered, the Countess decided to place some of Roman mosaics in the rooms and some adjustments had to be made to rooms in order to fit the recently discovered mosaics.

The palace is part house and part museum. Tiles from abandoned convents adorn some rooms; chests of artifacts dominate others. Other sections of the house such as portions of the ceiling and a mahogany banister come from nearby churches and palaces in Andalucia.

The facade that you can appreciate nowadays is eminently 'sevillana' and characteristic of the XVI century. Four galleries surround the main Patio , they separate each other by columns and arches, these arches contain elegant mudejar plaster-works capitals and modern decoration. The pavement in the galleries contains beautiful and strange Ancient Roman marbles. A magnificent and exceptional mosaic is placed on the centre of the patio. The size of the mosaic is 6,85 x 6,82 meters , It is scarcely deteriorated. The representation of the mosaics is compound by flowers, stars and graceful busts, a bust of a young cyclops is in the centre of the mosaic. Four female busts represent the four seasons: elegant women with spring flowers, summer ears, autumn cluster and dry winter trunks. There are other mythological representations: Leda with Swan, Europe with the Bull, Ganimedes with the Eagle and Danae.
