ADAPTIVE FISHING.GUIPUZKOA

Zaldibia, a village in the Basque Country, houses a Fishing School recently opened offering accessible fishing piers for wheelchair users, inside Aralar Natural Park.

Zaldibia. City Hall. Click to zoom image.Zaldibia is located in Guipuzkoa, in one of the four main valleys inside the Aralar Natural Park, near the industrial towns of Ordizia and Beasain.

The Aralar Natural Park is intensively used for free time and recreational activities. The villages and cottages in this environment, which are characteristic of the Gipuzkoan countryside, are in themselves, important attractions for the visitor. The Park is situated in southeastern Gipuzkoa, on the boundary with the Navarran sector of the same mountain range. It is a first-class landscape reference and a most outstanding mountain area in the Basque Country, talking about height and extension, soil use and natural values.

Located in this excellent natural environment, Zaldibia's City Hall in collaboration with the autonomous government has opened the Arkaka Sports Complex. The main space in this complex is the pond , surrounded by a wooden platform, a nearby children's playground and featuring disabled reserved parking spaces. A picnic area has been designed too as well as rest areas. There are four accessible fishing piers/platforms located on the shoreline of the pond.

This Sports Complex includes:

-a trail connecting the village of Zaldibia with the pond (upgrading works are being carried at present)
-a Fishing School in the pond
-an Interpretation Centre (opening to the public in about two months)

Licenses can be requested at the Federación de Pesca (located in Donostia, capital of Guipuzkoa) or at the bar Arrese in Zaldibia.
