A PRM accessible timber walkway has been recently installed connecting La Magdalena and Los Peligros beaches and an accessible route has been opened in Pedreña.
Santander is at the center of the northern coast of Spain, in the Cantabria Autonomous Region. is an elegant city which extends over a wide bay with views of the Cantabrian Sea . Its marine and commercial tradition is linked to a century old history of tourism, which has its main attractions in the famous El Sardinero beach, the promenade, the La Magdalena peninsula and other beaches as El Camello or Los Peligros.
A PRM accessible timber walkway has been recently installed joining La Magdalena and Los Peligros: this 650 mts long has been specially designed to be used by pedestrians, cyclists, people with reduced mobility and wheelchair users. La Playa de Los Peligros features other accessible facilities such as adapted toilets, adapted changing rooms (under construction and soon available), and floating beach chairs assisted by the Spanish Red Cross Staff.
The Town Hall has published a leaflet informing about all facilities for people with reduced mobility that are available in Los Peligros.
Other beaches in the city have gone through upgrading accessibility works: there is an elevator in the Primera Playa el Sardinero, amphibious beach chairs in El Camello and El Sardinero, ramps in La Concha and an adapted toilet next to the restaurant 'El Cormorán'.
Senda litoral de Pedreña.
A 400mts long sector of the future "Senda" which will go along Pontejos-Elechas and Pedreña, for more than 5 kms, has been officially opened last July.
Playa Pedreña, which is opposite to the city in the Bay, is where the "senda" (route) begins: in the beach area it actually features a raised timber walkway of about some 150 mts long (wheelchair accessible) and 2,10 mts wide. Later on the firm is a paved one and there are viewpoints where one can stop for a while and watch the magnificent Santander Bay.
The fully accesible Hotel Chateau La Roca is located in the part of the city known as Bezana (4 kms away from the city centre). There are six adapted rooms with en suite adapted bathroom.
The Restaurante La Roca (independent accessible entrance, accessible toilet) is located on the ground floor, and can be a good choice to taste and enjoy the delights of this northern region. (Tel: 942 578 832).
There is an Eurotaxi service available in Bezana, that can be booked/contacted calling: 942 58 22 70
